[The efficacy of caleflone in treating patients with viral hepatitis]. / Efektyvnist' kaleflonu pry likuvanni khvorykh na virusnyi hepatyt.

Effects were studied of caleflone on the course of viral hepatitis A and B in 94 patients presenting with moderately severe form of the condition. The drug was found to have a positive effect on the course of the illness. In the patients examined, inhibitory action of caleflone on lipid peroxidation was revealed. Caleflone is recommended for use in a combined treatment of patients with viral hepatitis A and B.

The indices of systemic and local immunity, level of prostaglandins, presence of Helicobacter pylori in the gastric mucosa was studied in 53 patients with gastritis B. Patients with superficial antral gastritis showed independent of the presence of Helicobacter pylori in the gastric mucosa changes of the systemic immunity and level of PGE2 and PGF1 that were abnormal. In atrophy of the antral gastric mucosa and presence there of H. pylori one observed a reduction of the number of T-lymphocytes and proliferative activity. Suppression of the system of prostaglandins in the blood and gastric mucosa, the toxic effect of H. pylori results in autosensibilization, increase of IgA and IgG finally leading to development of erosions in the gastric antrum.

Increases of the level of eosinophils in patients with rheumatism depends on the character of the disease course. In patients suffering of latent rheumatism with a subminimal activity, no increased number of circulating eosinophils is observed. It was established that patients with active rheumatism showed an increased subpopulation of eosinophils characterized by low density.

[An evaluation of the efficacy of antiatherosclerotic agents based on a study of the peripheral blood monocytes]. / Otsenka éffektivnosti protivoateroskleroticheskikh sredstv na osnove issledovaniia monotsitov perifericheskoi krovi.

Examination of the effect of calcium antagonists on the functional activity of monocytes revealed the possibility of using these cells as an object for testing antiatherosclerotic agents. The functional activity of monocytes was evaluated by their capacity of producing thromboxane B2 and by the cellular content of cyclic AMP. It is suggested that calcium antagonists verapamil and niphedipin, in particular, are potential antiatherosclerotic agents.

Urolesan was used in the treatment of patients with chronic ischemic heart disease. It was established that urolesan favours improvement of the state of the vascular component of microcirculation, aggregation of erythrocytes, increase of the peripheral circulation, normalization of the blood coagulation system, optimization of external respiration, normalization of the activity of serum aminotransferases. These changes were particularly pronounced in exertion stenocardia.
